The Purme Foundation is committed to private sector-led rehabilitation service on the basis of contributions and participations of those citizens and companies who share the hope of creating truly patient-oriented hospitals for challenged people in Korea.

The hospital will be centered on the patients, and respond warmly even to small voices of patients.
We will move away from backwater health care service which is dependent on patients' family and costly carers' services, and will create an advanced care system where the medical staff and volunteers take care of patients around the clock.
We will make a beautiful hospital in an idyllic environment to encourage and motivate patients to recover to their fullest potential.
We will build a network with the local community, religious organizations and social organizations to share the pain of handicapped individuals.

You cannot say, "It won't happen to me."
There are 4.7 million challenged people in Korea , i.e. 10% of the total population. Among them, only 6.7% was born with handicap while over 90% of them became disabled after birth. In other words, one out of ten people is handicapped, and nine out of ten challenged people become handicapped because of accidents or diseases like car accidents, work injuries, strokes, etc.
Every year, challenged people are growing by 98,000 even when we only count the category of crippled disorder. And it is expected that the number of disability population demanding rehabilitation services will increase with the increase of adult diseases and with graying population.

Medical rehabilitation service is in the absolute shortage
About 65% of disability population needs hospitalization and consistent rehabilitation training. With appropriate rehabilitation therapy and training, they are likely to lead lives not so different from people without disability. However, only 2% of them receive medical services. As of now, in terms of doctor-people ratio, one rehabilitation specialist covers 6,000 challenged people, and there are only 2.87 beds in rehabilitation wards for every 1,000 challenged. At the national level, there are only 500 or so beds in hospitals which offer comprehensive rehabilitation medicine including Severance Hospital , National Rehabilitation Center , and Samyuk Rehabilitation Center.

A large number of challenged patients suffer from the lack of medical services oriented toward the handicapped patients. It is important that there should be more rehabilitation hospitals in order for our neighbors to overcome disability.
